Introduction

There is no definite answer to this question. For some getting a coaching might help but for others it might not. Some people consider coaching institute as a taboo while others think that it is must for boards. Most of the times student tend to follow the trend prevalent in the society. But this is not that simple. Let us discuss the Pros and Cons of joining the coaching institutes for board preparations in this article.

First thing is that you must know your competition. Most of the times you do not know what and why you are doing a particular thing. For example you would join coaching because someone else did and scored good.

It is like a fish thinking to join running classes because a horse had won the race last year after joining the same coaching classes.

Break the Myths

Myth 1 – After 8th standard start concentrating more on science subjects.

We will fail as a nation if all of us would become Engineers, Doctors and Scientists. There are others who play an equally important role in nation building. Understand your subject of interest and aim to score good in that. Keep your plans of next 5 years handy. Suppose you want to be a Journalist. Keep your command in English/Hindi/Other Regional Languages good. Be prepared for your plans after 10th and even start doing a research on which institutes you would want to get into.

Myth 2 – Coaching Institutes are must to achieve good percentage

Depends upon your interests and strategy for Boards. It is not very wise to study throughout the day.

Going to school is enough. At home you should work on your skills so that you can better yourself in your area of interests. If you do not plan ahead then last resort for you would be joining coachings or going for crash courses etc. So plan well, master your skills and try to avoid the idea of joining coaching classes.

Myth 3 – Mr. Sharma’ son scored good marks in 10th boards last year because he joined an XYZ coaching hence you would also join the same coaching.

Never do that till you feel that you would need assistance of a particular teacher to excel a subject.

These days schools have just become a place for students to complete their syllabus in time. Teachers come to school do their jobs and go back to home. But school has to be a lot more than this. It should help student to explore themselves. Understand their interests and explore the career prospects accordingly. Education is not just about scoring good in exams.

This shallow approach of schools lead students to join coaching institutes. If schools do not train students to plan their future someone else would do. That is exactly what coaching institute are doing.
