What is SSC

SSC, Staff Selection Commission is a government organization which was formed around 42 years ago on 4 November 1975 by the government of India. It is formally known as Subordinate Services Commission. SSC was formed with the motive of conducting examinations to hire for the posts in various government ministries and their subordinate offices. Since government jobs are most preferred by Indian students, SSC examinations are the bridge between government and job seekers.In this post, we will discuss SSC 2018 – Exam, Date, Eligibility, Notification, Syllabus.

Carrer in SSC

SSC offers jobs of lower divisional clerks at armed forces and railways, assistant officers in various ministries, income tax inspectors and other excise officers, CBI sub-inspectors, tax assistants etc. One of the motivating factors for students to appear in SSC exams is the fact that the posts for which they are recruited get promotions after a few years and there are stability and increments in the job. Government jobs provide security and people get preferences in many areas due to holding a government official authority.

Thousands of job vacancies are filled by SSC by conducting all India level exam each year.More than 14lakh students appear each year in the SSC CGL exams. SSC CGL 2018 is estimated to bring approximately 30,000 vacancies for various prestigious government posts.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern And Syllabus

Registration for SSC CGL starts from 15th may 2017 to 19th June 2017. SSC CGL exams are conducted in four levels – Tier-I, Tier-II, Tier-III, Tier-IV.

Tier-I:

 It is an online examination of objective multiple choice questions. As per 2018 guidelines, the time limit has been decreased from 120 minutes to 75 minutes.
 It comprises of 4 sections: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English Comprehension.
 It is 200 mark paper with 100 questions of 2 marks each and has a negative marking of 0.5 marks each wrong answer.
 Exam duration is 60 minutes and for handicapped it is 100 minutes.

Tier-II:

 It is also an online examination of objective multiple choice questions.
 There are 100 questions of 2 marks each.
 There are four papers:

1.Paper I: Quantitative abilities (compulsory)
2.Paper II: English Language And Comprehension (compulsory)

3.Paper III: Statistics (only for statistical investigator gr II and compiler)
4. Paper IV: General studies finance and economics (only for the post of assistant audit officer).

 There will be negative marking of 0.5 marks for paper 1,3,4 and 0.25 marks for paper 2.
 The duration of exam is 2 hours and for handicapped students its 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Tier-III:

 It is a descriptive paper in English/ Hindi and done through pen paper mode.
 There is no sectional cutoff.
 The purpose is to test the writing skills and language of students.
 Students are tested on their article writing, letter and applications writing skills. Reading newspapers and articles can be of great help for students appearing in this exam.
 It is a 100 mark exam and duration is 60 minutes. For handicapped students, the duration is 80 minutes.

Tier-IV:

 It is a computer proficiency skill test.
 Data entry speed test is conducted to test the typing speed of candidates. Duration is 15 minutes in which 2000 key depressions are to be used in an English text.
 Computer proficiency test in Word Processing, Spreadsheet and Slide Generation is conducted. It is a qualifying test.

The online registration is available at official website http://www.ssconline.nic.in/ from 16 may 2018 and open until 16 June 2018. The application fee is rs100 which can be paid SBI net banking, debit or credit card, or in the form of challan. Fees are exempted for female and Sc /St classes. The admit cards are also available online.
